It is unlikely that the 'Star' watermarked paper had lines around the edge of the sheet ..... I have never seen anything other than stars (!) on the 1855 4d Chalon.

Pos.1, back.tif

it is quite easy to find these lines on 4 double line Watermark

Still on the way to plate Chalon four pence, I found this star Watermark with parallel lines.
From Position 5, top row of the sheet.

I have check other star Watermak from side of the sheet and find nothing like that.

My 'best guess' is that a sheet or star watermark paper, during the papermaking process somehow ended up with a scrap of wire adhering to the papermaking frame and this gave rise to the additional shape above the star. My understanding is that the Perkins Bacon security watermark paper was made by placing paper pulp in a frame in which the watermark images were laid. These were formed from wire bent into the required shape and these shapes produced different pape density where the wire shape occured.
Maybe a small section of the border decoration became detached and ended up within the papermaking frame or maybe a scarp of workshop waste wire fell onto the frame
The Star watermark paper did in fact have a considerable amount of design around the edges including the word "POSTAGE" and a variety of elongates shapes. Part of one of thse could have become damaged and moved
This paper was made some two years before the lined numeral paper was sent to Tasmania. I cant see that the lined numeral paper would easily end up with a stray star shape .

I have managed to find one image of a complete sheet of paper - attached.

Thanks Pete for your opinion.
I am not sure it's an accident as lines looks really parallel
But I have also no other solution to suggest...
Does someone know where I can find article about watermark on Four Double line watermark?
Very few informations in Tinsley's Book.
I know I have read something about these marginal lines somewhere, but I do not remember where.
Thanks for your help

Laurent,
if it was a part of the border decoration then some of this has a parallel line - but I am far from confident this is the explanation - just my best guess.
I found two more examples of Star watermark paper which shows the border decoration but as for the lined numeral paper, nothing so far. I am assuming this was the star watermark paper used in Tasmania.
