Does anyone out there on the BB have any idea where the serrated 19
private roulettes on the Chalons were applied and issued to the public?
Thanks

In Tinsley's book (page 33), he states the Serrated Perf 19 Chalons were used at Hobart starting in May 1868.
In my collection I have a 2d and 4d with Hobart dumb obliterators. I also have a 1d with BN68 of Perth.

This reply from Jerry is most helpful. I should have checked Tinsley earlier.
Also, recent editions of Gibbons' catalogue say the serrated 19 stamps were
used at Hobart while Robson Lowe, Volume 4, stated that they were used at
Deloraine (which is over 40 Km west of Launceston).
Now we see that Robson Lowe went astray on the serrated 19 stamps. Thus
we should be convinced that the serrated 19 stamps were issued at Hobart.
Thanks again to Jerry for this update.

Further on the serrated 19, Gibbons mentions a 1d carmine perf 10 on three sides and
serrated 19 on the fourth. Can this possibly be genuine? Jerry notes that serrated 19
was used at Hobart. But was it done by Walch or someone else, perhaps a small post
office in or near Hobart? Tinsley doesn't mention that compound but does mention a
serrated 19 x pin perf 10½. He doesn't say it's genuine, though. There may be some
confusion in that Gibbons and Tinsley don't seem to be talking about the same thing
- and we wonder if it's genuine or not.
