Private roulettes on Chalons

The major listings of the private roulettes are in Tinsley's book (1986), Robson Lowe, vol. 4 (1962)
and the Stanley Gibbons catalogue. They don't seen to be 100% consistent. The serrated 19 items
seem to be reasonably consistent, bar the 1/- which is only in Tinsley and recent Gibbons listings.
We move on to the other private roulettes, which are mostly quite rare. Caveat emptor!

On page 35, Tinsley discusses a pin perforation 14½ and says it exists for 1d in brick red, carmine
and dull vermilion, 2d in green and yellow green and 4d in blue. Gibbons and Robson Lowe don't
have a pin perf 14½ but they do have a pin perf 13½ to 14½. Are these two roulettes really the
same or not? Gibbons lists under pin perf 13½ to 14½ the 1d in three shades like Tinsley, the 2d
in yellow green only, the 4d in pale blue and include a 6d and 1/- as does Robson Lowe.

Mostly, the roulettes discussed by Tinsley correspond to those in recent editions of Gibbons but
there are minor discrepancies for oblique roulette 11½ so there is some degree of consistency.
At least, that is encouraging.

Tinsley listed a few bogus variants to add to the confusion. Perhaps he should have listed bogus
variants only at the very end under a separate subheading. After all, collectors will have quite
enough trouble assembling a selection of genuine items without including fakes.

Hopefully, someone on this BB can help to clarify the broad picture of the private roulettes for
the Chalons, especially the pin perf 13½ to 14½ versus pin perf 14½ as considered above.
