This example has several attractive features but the most compelling is that it is used in 1907 and is printed on very thick (almost card) paper. I was concentrating on this aspect before I realised that it is in fact on V over Crown paper (watermark inverted in this case) which ceased to be used in 1905 with Lancaster recording an early date for Crown over A paper for the 1d of 19th August 1905. Use of the V over crown printing two years after the last printing is most unusual even for a small office such as Pearsons Point (RRR).
What is more intriguing is that the paper measures 0.38mm in thickness compared to 'normal' V over crown paper which measures 0.13mm. It is THREE TIMES thicker which is very obvious to the general feel. Geoff Kellow is unaware of thick V over crown paper used in any other Australian States issues so the question is, does anyone have any other examples of this or other issues printed on very thick paper?
