TEMPORARY P.O. for 1954 SCOUT CORROBOREE ??

#1 Post by Ross Ewington » Wed Aug 31, 2011 5:27 pm

Collectors of Tasmanian postmarks from the Commonwealth Period will know of the temporary post offices at The Lea Scout campsite (located between Hobart and Kingston)
and the datestamps used at Scout Corroborees held there in 1962/63 and 1981/82.

Here though is 'something different'. Another Scout Corroboree was held at The Lea in January 1954 and this cover indicates that a temporary post office was possibly in operation
during the period. Although the postmark is not that flash, it is clearly RELIEF No.4 · TAS-AUST.

Does anyone know about this temporary post office (or perhaps it was just a free bag or similar with the mail postmarked at the Hobart GPO)??
