The Courier (the Tasmanian Philatelic Society research journal) used to be a "clearing house"
for reporting contemporary Tassie postmarks. With the introduction of neoprene faced
datestamps in the early 1990s, many collectors chose to collect only the (soon to be obsolete)
longer lasting steel datestamps as the newer types proved to be ephemeral and in many instances,
replacements hard to identify from the originals. As a result, the reporting of new postmarks
to The Courier dwindled to nil and that is more or less the current situation.

Although this forum is not really suitable to start an exhaustive "A to Z" study of modern postmarks,
I feel that it is a good place to record the neoprene-faced special types that have been produced for a
specific purpose other than the day-to-day cancelling of mail.

Here is an example of one of the types of postmark to which I refer: If collectors post images of postmarks that they may have that fit into this category, I will
start to compile a listing of postmarks and offices below (in this first post).

I believe this is a new handstamp - it differs from the illustration previously posted, notably the postcode figures being more compact.

Dates seen 2 May 2011 and 1 July 2011

It's been quite some time since anything was added to this post.

While sorting through a carton of Priority Paid covers, I found this datestamp applied as an arrival
backstamp on a certified, Priority Paid cover forwarded from Launceston on the previous day.
