Scan 1 is an H Baily real photo of the church at New Town.
I thought scan 2 was also New Town, but is it?? Note the church has only 1 storey.
The card has a Kodak back but no other clues.
Can any confirm scan 2 ?
Mike, unfortunately I cannot "place" this scene at the moment. Are you certain that the card is of Tasmanian origin?
It may be useful to provide much enlarged images of the corner store and the church ... say a 600dpi view of the shop and a 1200dpi view of just the church .... there may be something revealing with some finer detail.
Hello Ross
No I am not certain it is a Tasmanian view. Have been over the card with a fine comb but there is no clues apart from the the shop W.J. Smith, Baker and Grocer. Card has a Kodak austral back, cross in each corner and a 5 in the middle (whatever that means!).
Someone must be familiar with this view?
I have been through the SLT online collection of digitized images of Tasmanian churches and didn't find a "contender". I also had a few attempts at connecting "W.J. Smith" with "Baker and Grocer" while searching the NLA digitized newspapers site but without success also. I think if it is not Tasmanian it would have to be a photo from somewhere in NSW as the church looks to be of a design pre-dating 1850.
The "5" in the Kodak Austral "stamp box" indicates that the card from the 1920s period or thereabouts.
