TROLLEY BUSES on POSTCARDS - SHARE YOUR IMAGES HERE

#1 Post by Ross Ewington » Fri Jun 17, 2011 6:50 pm

I have noted that trolley buses do not often 'feature' in Tasmanian postcards. When they are
included it's often only in the background

This real photo card by Valentine's has two Hobart 'Cantons' passing in Macquarie street .... it is interesting
to note here that except for the trees being much larger and the addition of the Reserve Bank building at centre
left ..... this streetscape is virtually unchanged.

As the destination board on the approaching bus is CASCADES and the tramlines to Sandy Bay are still turning into
Murray Street, this view can be dated sometime between 1942 and 1952 with c.1950 being fairly 'close to the mark'.

If you have one or more cards with Hobart or Launceston trolley buses well-featured, please add an image or two here.
