The Royal Mail Launceston

#1 Post by Mike » Wed Jan 14, 2015 2:01 pm

Found this cracker of a real photo card today. The truck is operated by the "Tas Motor Syn Launceston". They appear to be licenced (Truck No 11 ?) Royal Mail contractors.
Photo taken on the banks of the Tamar River. Trevallyn is in the background.
Does anyone have additional information?

Postally used Launceston 20/8/09 to Ormley (near Fingal)

That's definitely a real cracker Mike!

I found this news item published in the N.W. Advocate & Emu Bay Times on Monday, December 24th 1906 which may provide a 'springboard' for further research.

Fascinating that the vehicle appears to have been constructed in Devonport and that a Holyman operated the service to Beaconsfield.

Thanks Ross for finding that interesting newspaper article.

What would we do without Trove?
