thanks Mike ....yes, it's is most likely to be a NZ card ..it would be tricky to freeze a waterfall like that in Tasmania!!

I was misled by it's inclusion in an album of Tassie West Coast cards. It also explains the undivided back on a card
used in 1906 as I believe that divided back cards were only valid for use in NZ from 1907.

Can anybody identify the publisher and date of this Tasmanian Postcard? Being undivided back it is before 1905, but that's all I can deduce. Maybe one of the date stamps is '00', but that is just a guess. All suggestions welcome.
Thanks

I am certain you have the correct year. The CARAGLIO cancel looks like 10th. March 1900. The card was then readdressed to Rome [ROMA] and received on the 11th. March 1900. It looks like it was franked with a penny pictorial and consequently taxed 5 centimes. When the card reached its destination, I assume the tax would have then be doubled to 10 centimes as required by the U.P.U. It wasn't until October 1907, that the country of ORIGIN had to mark double the deficiency for any items that were underpaid.

Des Beechey
Des,

I can't help you who produced the "E.J.H. Series" bit I believe the logo to be W&K Co Ltd = Wildt & Kray Co Ltd

I have seen cards published by A.W. Marshall of Devonport and a few others with this postcard back.

Interesting to note that the series numbers range from '14' to '4408' ..... there could be a lot of cards out there!

This colour-tinted real photo GREETINGS FROM DEVONPORT card has "Oceanic Series (Copyright) No.3" in LL corner.

Has anyone seen any other cards from the series or know the actual publisher ......

O.S. & P.C. Co. (Oceanic Stamp & Post Card Company - Sydney) was a contemporary postcard publisher however to date,
I've not seen any real photo cards produced by this company.

Judging by the Holdens parked in the main street of Strahan, this real photo 'touristy' card printed on "GEVAERT" postcard stock dates from the late 1950s

Thanks to Neville Solly of South Australia for providing a solution to the puzzle - the cards were published by Valentine

Neville has forwarded these cards using the same photo of The Causeway at Victor Harbour

Interesting to note that the three real photo cards above are all numbered '945' and the printed card is 'Series 945'

Perhaps the Tasmanian cards have a corresponding number on a real photo view and they are not from a numbered series at all.

Another "Q.E.D." methinks.

[quote="Ross Ewington"]I have seen this postcard back on a "Printed in Germany" card before....
postcard back2.jpg
Does anyone know if the logo (H D r C ??) in the stamp box belongs to the printer or the publisher (the latter is not identified on the card - see below) ??

These cards are printed by C.G. Roeder, Leipzig and the 155 is believed to refer to the wholesaler W T Pater of Melbourne.

Where did J. Bartholomew & Co. do their engraving?

Has anyone seen another example but with a different photo inserted?

Another one from the set, King's Bridge with a map of North East Tasmania. J Bartholomew &Co were a well known cartographic company from Edinburgh. The card has a faint Riversdale postmark.

This printed colour postcard is new to me ..... the publisher is not clearly identified but the letters "AP" (joined) are at the beginning of the title line.
The postcard back probably indicates that the card was printed in Melbourne by Osboldstone but I am not certain about this.

Does the card have an "Osboldstone back"?

Lower Mathinna Falls are located near Healesville, Victoria.
Yes, I think it is an Osboldstone back. I have seen other Victorian cards with this printed back.

I purchased these fine 'winter sports' real photo cards for my portrait cards exhibit last weekend.

They are of the same party and are probably from the same period (c.1910) but probably not from the same year.

The location in both photos is Pine Lake which must have been a mighty trek from Deloraine in those days.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to the photographer(s)? ....or the identity of the skaters, etc.?

I don't imagine that Pine Lake would ever ever have thick enough ice nowadays for such large groups to stand on it let alone so close together!

I have some similar photo postcards, perhaps taken at the same time as yours, but also not dated or no photographers name.

My guess with regards to the photographer is either Stephen Spurling or H J King. Could it be either King or Spurling on the far right of the postcard with the camera in the centre? He looks familiar to me!

The photo I have attached is dated June 2nd 1908. Again no photographers name. I think my card could date perhaps 6 to 8 years earlier then yours.
It would appear that Pine Lake in the winter was a popular spot to visit.

Hopefully, this is a fairly easy query ....

The real photo card below dating from 1918 was produced for the Tasmanian Tourist Bureau (it has a TTB postcard 'back'). Can anyone identify the photographer
I have seen similar numbering before i.e. >133< on locally produced cards but I can't make a connection with a specific photographer.

The photographer for these real photo postcards for the Tasmanian Tourist Bureau was Willian Fellows who marked many of his cards as "D.I.C. photo". As you know the DIC stands for Direct Import Company.
Ross could you please scan the back so I can identify the type and list as I have not seen this card before. There are 4 different backs. I have listed them in my booklet The Semi Official Postcards of Tasmania, 1908 - 1969. I can copy and paste the types if you want.
This scan only has the number on the front >66< and the back shows D.I.C. Photo.
