Re: ADVERTISING CARDS by F.W. NIVEN
An excellent card indeed! Do you know what it brought at auction?
There's a few references to the Devon Cycle Works in the N.W. Advocate & Emu Bay Times
from the period, this 'advertorial' being from December 22nd, 1909.

Ross
The Devon Cycle card sold for $180 plus buyers commission.
Yes, I did do a Trove search and found the above article. Very interesting.

Re: ADVERTISING CARDS by F.W. NIVEN
Just found a Church Grammar School, Launceston, with a notice printed on the back for Old Launcestonian's annual sports, meeting and dinner on Saturday, March 28th. The Launceston postmark is dated 27/3/14. A trove search confirmed the 1914 date. This card is now listed on the F.W.Niven Listing.

Re: ADVERTISING CARDS by F.W. NIVEN
Thanks Mike for posting images of this card ..... would it be the latest 'legitimate' postal use of a Niven card that you have seen?
I assume that the school must have had a pile of cards tucked away in a storeroom since 1908/09 and decided to use them up.
P.S. examples of a valid use of the ½d printed matter rate in 1914 are few and far between; also note ½d Pictorial franking ...very few ½d Roos were used in Tasmania due to the large stock of the ½d Pictorial on hand as of Jan 1913. By the time stocks had been exhausted/withdrawn, there was only a short period until the ½d green KGV defin was issued.

Re: ADVERTISING CARDS by F.W. NIVEN
Now and again you come across a postcard which is impressive on both sides. This is one of them! A scarce Devonport F.W.Niven advertising postcard which was posted without a stamp, hence taxed at double the rate, using two one penny postage dues. The card was posted from Ulverstone on the 23/8/11 to Kindred. It is addressed to the secretary of the Kindred Football Club.

Re: ADVERTISING CARDS by F.W. NIVEN
The Brownell Bros. THE STORE OF SATISFACTION card has been reported above however
I think that the back of the card is of interest.... I can't recall having seen another Niven card produced for a Tasmanian business with the same back.
I note that this card was used in 1910 (and the one posted by Kerry in 1921) so perhaps it was produced
after the extensive round of statewide orders filled in 1908.
Do you have another card with the same back?

The scans are rather poor but it was the best I could get.
