I dont think the sedges are bullrushes, so it may well be a coastal inlet. Its not from Triabunna looking South as there would be hills to the right. It might be further up the E. Coast .
It may be around the Scamander/ St Hellens area. Its a tough one.

My "tuppence" worth.

It reminds me of the Derwent foreshore near Claremont with Mount Direction in the distance looking south east. The foreshore is very similar near where the Claremont Scout Hall was situated and the Claremont peninsular juts out into the Derwent in the near distance.

Somewhere for Ross to go for a mid week drive instead of lotting.

There are even sedges along the foreshore in that part of the river.

This real photo card (with a Kodak Austral "stampbox" pre-dating 1915") was purported to be a view
of a Tasmanian location by a mainland postcard dealer. Any thoughts as to whether it is (a Tasmanian
view) or not?

Ladies and Gentlemen

I attach a view of a complex that includes an Aussie Rules pitch and a bowling green. It seems to be close to the sea (the background looks like that to me). Can anyone identify for me please?

re Patrick's "unknown complex ... the rocks look like granite so I thought "East Coast".

A little "flyover" of the main towns using Google Earth and at Peggy's Point Bicheno is the
"complex" ..... the Silver Sands Motel (which would have been very new when the PPC photo was taken).

Here's the Google shot ...... you can make out the bowling green and football grounds and the
circular pool has been filled in but can still be identified.

I think the key to this one may be to identify the faint outline of the distant hill or mountain in the background on the skyline between the trees. I suspect its Mt Wellington, where the mountain rises steeply from the South, as seen from Hobart. Looking at your Lady Franklin photo, its seems not to be taken from there.
I will have to visit myself to check.

Could this be a pathway in the botanical gardens Hobart. The plants and trees do not look all native types, and it appears to be well maintained. What are the 2 up-right poles with the bar across? Is it a childens swing? Also what does the writing below the photo say?

Seal Rocks "Bass Straits"
I've had this card for some time and never had much of an idea where Seal Rocks might be.
I noticed on TV last night a photo of Seal Rocks, King Island. I have no idea if this is the same " Seal Rocks" . Can anyone comment? If King Island, then this should go on the list elsewhere on the Bulletin Board under that topic.
Also, can anyone provide any information about about the history of Stereo cards and the "Punch Steroscopic Post Card" ?

This card was mailed from Hobart in 1909. The card publisher is not identified.

Can anyone tell me whether 'Belleview Beach' ever existed as a place name or is
it just another 'lost in the translation' cards printed in Germany?

Thanks for speedy identification of the Silver Sands motel (see above). Another one for you to puzzle over:
Postcard bought on Delcampe, not postally used and with a handstamp on the back for The Iona Studio. The card is (lightly) tinted and shows a fairly large and well-tended garden with a rotunda in the background.

I think this one is almost impossible to identify. I have never seen anything remotely like this image in Tasmania and suspect the area has changed beyond recognition in the last 100 years, except perhaps the garden wall in the background is reminiscent of either the Hobart Botanical Gardens or Government House.

This could be the Onkaparinga River [South Aust.] in the section between the old railway bridge at Noarlunga and the Commercial Rd. bridge at Port Noarlunga. The cliffs are crumbling, indicating that they are sandstone and/or limestone [common in that area]. There is very little vegetation and the river is shallow and not very wide - typical of South Australia. This area is about 35km south - south - west of Adelaide and was very popular with tourists during the Federation period.

This real photo card (of good quality production) featuring a magificent
waterwheel is inscribed 'LILYDAL(E)'. There are some large fern fronds visible
in the foreground but there is a Lilydale in Victoria.

Does anyone know at which LILYDALE this waterwheel was situated?
(the card was part of a bundle of 'Tasmania only' cards that have surfaced recently)

I recently obtained 5 cards from a family correspondance to a Mrs Edgar Freeman (Auntie Hattie) in the USA.

The family house is called "Eudion" and is located somewhere in Hobart. The second scan shows the family that lived there. Another card which is not scanned shows an old weatherboard house at Franklin, (HH Baily is the photographer). The Franklin card was written by ?? Ryan and is also addressed to Mrs Edgar Freeman. So there appears to be some family relationship between the Hobart and Franklin families.

My question is, can any Hobart detective tell me,

WHERE IS EUDION LOCATED IN HOBART? WHAT STREET? Is the house still standing?

and

what is the surname of the family who lived there? Note the names of the adult children and "mother" in the second scan.

It may be in Forrest Road. I'll have a look next time I'm in the area.

Judging by the age of the house and the slope of the street, I thought that "Eudion" would be fairly close by.

I can report that after a short walk this evening (only 5 minutes from my office in Watchorn Street), I located
the house in the photo at 161 Melville Street, just one house down from the intersection with Barrack Street.
The house is well-preserved and little has changed except for the front gate.

I checked to see if a Google Street View is available but apparently not. Here is the location on a map though
and I will try and post a contemporary photo soon.
It was a little dark when I found the house but a name plate or similar with EUDION thereupon was not to be seen.

P.S. a copy of Wise's Tasmania Post Office Directory c.1930 should reveal the inhabitants!

I have just check my Tasmanian PO Directories

In 1904 James Ellis is listed living at 161 Melville St and
In 1913 William Doyle is listed to at least to 1936.

Would be interesting to find what year the Doyle family moved in.
