Another unknown to me. Great card, Coffee Palace W.A.Larkin. Chemist shop to the left. Looks like an Australian flag on the pole. Larkin's bait & Stables on sign to the right. The sign to right of the door way, hard to read but looks like "??ALS". No detail on the back of the card. Tasmanian ???
Any ideas?

Mike, this photo may be from your "neck of the woods" .....there's quite a few Larkins along the NW Coast I think ..... found this...

Re: LARKIN'S COFFEE PALACE Where ??
Ross, I followed your Burnie trail and I think I have hit "pay dirt". I eventually looked in the book Campsite to City, A History of Burnie by Kerry Pink. I found that W.Larkin was one of the proprietors of the Temperance Hotel in Wilson Street Burnie. It was located next door to the present day Ivery's Pharmacy, right in the middle of the Burnie CBD. It seems that a Temperance Hotel and Coffee Palace are the the same thing, ie no alcohol !!
I also found in the same book (page 119) a picture of the Chemist shop next door to the Coffee Palace. See scan. Note the part chemist shop showing in the Coffee Palace scan. They match.
So I am sure that the Larkin photo is in Burnie. QED?

Hello Mike,
I am in Burnie today to research the Burnie Coffee House which was run by my ancestors William Larkin and his wife Alice. This is the first time I have seen a photo of the building and I wonder if the family are the people on the top verandah. Can you give me more detail of the message on the card and when it was sent please?

Hello Pam
The postcard is not postally used but has a short message on the back,
"This is our house, Photo of."
I have had this card in my collection for many years and I cannot remember where I obtained it. It was in my box of "where is it?" and I only worked out the location last year with a push and a bit of help from Ross.
Hope this is of help to you.
Mike.
