SCENERY PRESERVATION BOARD SERIES POSTALLY USED !!

#1 Post by Mike » Mon Apr 11, 2011 2:07 pm

It has taken me 30 years to find a postally used card from the Semi Official Scenery Preservation Board Series. These cards are reasonable commen unused but postally used is another matter. To my knowledge this is the first recorded postally used copy from this series.

This card is from what I have called from my listing, Series No2. Series No1 was printed by L.G Shea, Government Printer Hobart. Series No2 was printed by D.E. Wilkinson Acting Government Printer Hobart. This card is from Series No2 and was posted from Leichardt NSW on the 18th Nov 1963. The letter mentions that "We stayed in Tasmania for an extra week."

I quote from my booklet "The Semi Official Postcards of Tasmania 1908 to 1969" page 29,

"D.E.Wilkinson was the Government Printer from 1964 to 1969. As Wilkinson was the Acting Government Printer when this set was printed. it is posible that these cards were printed in 1963 or early 1964 before Wilkinson was officially appointed to the position of Government Printer". L.G Shea was the Government printer from 1951 to 1963.

So this card proves that it was printed in 1963. I consider that this card is a very important find. Also a nice solo use of the 1/- Colombo Plan Stamp.

Have you seen any other used examples?

Also, as these cards were probably sold in a set of 12, do outer cover envelopes exist?
