BN1 28 of Fingal

#1 Post by RogerKinns » Mon Mar 30, 2015 6:59 pm

I had been struggling to find a reasonable example of the RR-rated BN1 '28' cancel of Fingal. I then spotted one on a pair of 2d Chalons with star watermark and good margins all round. The pair has a 1990 BPA certificate as SG16, although the deep green colour suggests SG 15. There is no mention of the postmark. There was an example of BN1 28 in the sale of the David McNamee collection (Prestige Philately, Sale 180, 7 May 2013, Lot 245). That too is quite light. Does anyone have a better-inked example?

I have been able to find reasonable examples of most 1st allocation BNs but not this one.

This is the best example of 1st allocation 28 for Fingal that I can muster.

Thanks, Malcolm.

That's a very good reference strike.

The image posted by Malcolm is a very nice copy of BN28 of the first allocation. One of the best references showing examples of first allocation numerals is David McNamee's exhibit which can be found at:

Geoff,

Thanks for pointing that out. It's a very helpful reference. So the pair of 2d Chalons was in the David McNamee collection! I suppose it was separated out for sale because of the scarcity of 2d star watermark pairs in their own right.
