ENHANCED POSTMARKS - Post the bad and the dangerous here!
Collectors of Tasmanian postmarks are aware of examples of postmarks which should have been left
as they were found but where some vandal couldn't help 'improving' the missing or very light bits with a little black ink.
Usually, such improvements are quite obvious and one's disappointment immediate but occasionally you
will find one which is in the "is it or isn't it?" class.
The reason for this topic is twofold:
a) to share your enhanced postmarks, 'good', bad and 'dangerous'
b) to assist in determining whether a postmark has been enhanced or not (please post a large image, at least 300dpi)
Have a look through your collection and see what you can post here!
Here's a couple to make a start.....
...why anyone would wish to 'improve' a fairly common postmark such as CHUDLEIGH is beyond me !!!

This example of Beach End is pretty obvious from the front and even more so from the reverse. Must have used a fine felt tipped pen.

Re: ENHANCED POSTMARKS - Post the bad and the dangerous here
I just noticed this postmark currently offered on eBay - the vendor has described it correctly and started it very fairly at US$3.50

....with just over three days to go, I note that the bidding has already reached US$63. I shall report the final result here.
Postscript: the postmark sold for US$179.49 ..... I won't comment further!

Re: ENHANCED POSTMARKS - Post the bad and the dangerous here
An eBay seller located in New Zealand has been offering the occasional postmark on Pictorial which has been
enhanced. There is no mention of this in the (very) brief lot descriptions.
Some recently listed examples

....... and another (sigh!) ...there's a bid on it too!
Footnote: I have since contacted the seller concerned indicating some of the 'enhanced'
he has offered and received a most polite reply (not always the case when contacting eBay sellers!)
I have explained a method of checking for enhanced postmarks to him via e-mail believe it's unlikely that he will
offer any more without mentioning the defect in the description.

UPDATE RE ENHANCED POSTMARKS OFFERED FOR AUCTION BY 'wacl2' ON EBAY:
Things went well for a while after I exchanged a couple of e-mails with this seller ... he dropped his starting prices
and mentioned the obvious enhancements in the description.
Unfortunately, he no longer describes an obvious enhancement as an enhancement but as "possibly enhanced writing"!!
What a pity - fortunately, most of the enhanced postmarks he has offered for sale are fairly easy to pick.

I thought it's time to add a few more ...am I the only person (besides Geoff) who notices these annoying items??
