Unknown Cancel on ½d Sideface

#1 Post by Jerry Weirich » Sat Jun 11, 2022 2:23 am

Has anyone seen this cancel before? The cancel is not Tasmanian--or at least I have never seen it before in the Tasmanian literature. The stamp does not appear to be fiscally used indicating that the cancel is a fake applied to hide its true usage (although it could still be a fake cancel). Any chance this could be a British cancel? The ½d Sideface is known used by the London Foreign Division so maybe this could be one of theirs. Any thoughts appreciated.

Jerry, sorry to be a bit vague, but I have seen this cancel before. It's not Tasmanian, or Australian for that matter. It may well be a U.K cancels. I just cannot think where I have seen it before, sorry.

Thanks John! At least you've confirmed the cancel is not Australian. Since you have seen it before, I won't relegate it to the forged cancel collection quite yet.

I know this post is very old, but that looks like a cancel from India.
