Early Date for 2d Electro Poor Print Pictorial

#1 Post by Jerry Weirich » Mon Jul 13, 2020 3:34 am

In early 1910, the 2d electrotype pictorial printings were extremely poor and the stamps were missing most of the fine shading lines. Lancaster (The Pictorial Stamps of Tasmania, p96) indicated the poor printings were due to clotting of an unsuitable ink or dirt clogging the printing surface. The stamps' appearance is so different from the earlier 2d electrotype printings that Stanley Gibbons once listed these stamps as a rare lithographic printing. Lancaster indicates that the first of these poor prints were made in Jan-Feb 1910. Attached is a copy dated 19 Jan 10 and I would like to know if anyone has seen an earlier date?
