Hi all, I have attached scan of two 1d chalons one is a circular date stamp of Back Creek the seller thought it may be a forgery any thoughts most welcome.
the other stamp is a clear BN48 1st allocation Askelands 1st allocation revisited has four BN 48 two allocated and two blank could this be Ouse or Cascades.

John, no back Creek CDS issued until about June 78 so its not 1867 as it might appear ( it would not have a frame if issued then in any case).
Looks definitely dodgy to me. Could be an enhanced 1907 strike perhaps. I think I have seen this before ?

As you know No 48 first went to Ouse in the Nov 1853 First Allocation issue. BN 48 was then transferred to Cascades, Tasman Peninsular late '54 or early 55. It was later transferred to Impression Bay around 1 Jul 1856.
It then transferred to Hobart where it received extensive use. Impression Bay closed 2 Feb 58. First allocation BN 48 was in use in Hobart up until late 1860.
Without a dated example, you can only rely on dating the stamp.
Only two stamped covers are known from Impression Bay and one or two from Cascades. 48 from Ouse is also very scarce and your stamp is the wrong type for a 1843-54 impression of 48.

Almost certainly Hobart is my guess.
