Month codes in CDS

#1 Post by jlays » Sat Jul 10, 2010 8:19 am

I have a post card with a Macquarie Plains postmark dated "JU 18 06." My question is, was it posted in June or July? I know that Hobart used JE for June and JY for July, but see that other offices used JU. My post card went to Klerksdorp, Transvaal ("25 JUL 06" receiver). A week in transit seems too quick, and five weeks, too slow! Please advise. Thanks!

Hi Jim .... welcome to the TPS BB !

re your question: either JU or JE were used to denote June; JY or JL to denote July.
Four to five weeks for transit to Transvaal is about right ... I wonder how long
surface mail would take nowadays ?!!
