Money Order Office Hobart datestamp

can any-one provide any information about the MONEY ORDER OFFICE / HOBART datestamp on this postcard -

Image

has this datestamp been seen before and if so what are the recorded dates?

why was it applied to this postcard since it was not used to cancel the stamp?
- was the MOO counter involved in the taxing of underpaid items?

why is the MOO datestamp dated the day before the Hobart PR cds cancelling the stamp?
- is this possibly a date error having not been changed from the previous day?

any assistance appreciated
many thanks,

The Money Order Office cancel may have been 'per favour' and applied the day before
the PPC was mailed in a pillar receiver ..... note that the addressee is a "MO Clerk"
and the sender may have procured a strike as a local 'souvenir of interest' for a person
employed in such a position.

I have never seen anything even vaguely resembling this rubber unframed MOO datestamp however!

Well I have certainly seen this CDS before. Think I have two copies ex PMG forms. Earliestb I have seen it however, ins in 1913, so to see it before 1913, especially 5 years befoore is a bit of a relevation. It is very rare. I have also seen virtually the same datestamp from Launceston dating from 1913. Makes sense that this will probably eventually appear before 1913 as well.

Money Order CDS 1 12 Dec 1898 12 May 1905 RRR “MO & S.B Tasmania”. Red and black inks
2a 22 Nov 1911 26 May 1959 RRRR(S)
RRR(C) “M.O.O Hobart”. Black 1911-22. Red 1947-59
R1(i) 18 Mar 1913 18 Mar 1913 RRRRR “Money Order Office/Hobart”. Blue ink. Unframed CDS. Only one copy known

R1(i) is the CDS. I have another copy, from 1914 I think, that I have not listed. Considering the 1908 date, it may date back to 1905 if it replaced the TYpe 1 CDS.

Torsten,

Can you please advise as to whether the MOO datestamp is on top of or beneath the writing?

on closer inspection under a magnifying glass the message is indeed written on TOP of the MOO datestamp
apparently the CDS was applied first (perhaps even BY the writer?) and then the message written
