NEW NORFOLK RY. STN / AU 1 07 / TASMANIA - rated (R)
Note that the "month" and "day" have been added using handheld type!
Most unusual - not only a well above average strike but a weird one as well!
Postmark ties a 1d Pictorial to a Walch & Sons PPC featuring a picture of
"Hobart, from Huon Road".

This postmark will be auctioned by TSA in November 2009

Lady's Bay cancellations seem to be more common with date errors and adjustments of various kinds than with a normal circular date stamp. Errors such as 'day before month' and inverted dates, and manuscript insertions of the day, are often seen. Postmistress Mrs Brown, who served from 1899 to 1912 (Green book, Vol II, p163) seems to have had particular difficulty with her datestamp; errors also appear in the modified 'Lady Bay' cancellations. This example from 1907 has the month inverted. It was bought in a private sale during November 2007.

Roger, very nice strike - the general standard from this office seems to be rather poor quality as a rule.

KANGAROO VALLEY / NO 1 00 / TAS:
This example was sold by Tasmanian Stamp Auctions in May 2007 for $275.
The dateline is "interesting" - compare it with the November 5th dated example posted earlier in this topic.

PARADISE / NO 3 02 / TASMANIA
One of the scarcer postmarks rated "R" on Pictorial and this example is well above
average for clarity and completeness.

This Black Brush postmark couldn't possibly be above average could it .... well it is !!
BLACK-BRUSH / NO 13 08 / TAS:

Most strikes of this RR rated postmark are usually quite poor

Here's another example that was sold by TSA in their May 5th 2007 postal auction for $350
The extraordinary quality was obviously worth a "healthy premium" !

GUNN'S PLAINS Type 1 (rated R) is very hard to locate as a full clear impression.

Here's a couple that will be hard to beat (yes, this could be taken as a challenge!)

MACQUARIE HEADS (rated RR) is another cds postmark hard to find as a "quality strike"

Here are two above average examples on 5d Pictorials:

and this little beauty that fetched a "hammer price" of $220 in the TSA May 5th 2007 postal auction!

Viewing Ross's Bismark cds prompted me to check my own. Strikes on 4 values of Pictorials shown below illustrate that the general quality of strikes from Bismark is generally well above average, although admittedly the dates on a couple of these are not complete.

CLARENCE PLAINS SP 15 02 TASMANIA - an above average strike for this
datestamp which is deservedly rated (R)R ..... an example this good is rarer
than many RRR rated postmarks in my opinion.

      MONTEZUMA NO 26 01 TASMANIA
Here is a complete strike on a 6d DLR. 'Tasmania' is slightly smudged, otherwise it's a fine example. Bought from Stanley Gibbons in February 2007.
