Re: ADVERTISING CARDS by F.W. NIVEN
Two more cards for the listing. Have recorded "The Golden Fleece" Launceston and Ralph Gay "Central Sample Rooms" 73 Murray St Hobart, in "F.W Niven's Advertising Postcards of Tasmania"
Re: ADVERTISING CARDS by F.W. NIVEN
Lot 232 in Tullochs Auctions recent sale contained 45 F.W. Niven cards along with another 127 Tasmanian advertising cards, some good and some rather ordinary. This lot sold for $9750 + buyers commission.
It is interesting to note that no unlisted Niven cards in my listing were found.

A NEW DISCOVERY!
I stumbled on this Tasmanian Niven card yesterday in a very unlightly place. I was unable to scan the card, hence the photo.
Not in the best of condition but I have never seen this card before. G.W. Fox had his business in Ulverstone. (seeTas PO directory). This is not mentioned on the card. Card posted Ulverstone to Waratah 12/3/10.
This card is now listed in the Tasmanian Niven List.

Re: ADVERTISING CARDS by F.W. NIVEN
Two new unrecorded Niven cards. Unfortunately I was unable to take scans.
1. Arthur A Denton. Commonwealth Carrige Works for High Class Vechicles. 62 and 64 Patterson Street Launceston.
Posted Derby 1/3/11. This card is not like the usual Niven advertising card. The features an un-named artist colour drawing of a buggy being pulled by two horses with a man and women as passengers. Usual Niven back.
2. Jas D Johnstone. Chemist and Druggist, The Square Pharmacy. Corner of Charles and Elizabeth Sts, Launceston. Usual Niven back.

An image of this card was sent to me by GW and he has given permission for it to be reproduced here.
It has 'FWN & Co' on the back.

You've got one now!
Re: ADVERTISING CARDS by F.W. NIVEN
At last, a response to one of Mike's requests. I show my copy of 'R A Paterson's Luncheon Rooms'. It is fairly well-worn on the edges, but not postally used. It has the printing on the reverse in brown.
More to come, I hope.

Re: ADVERTISING CARDS by F.W. NIVEN
Thanks Patrick ... is there any 'ID' on the card to verify that this establishment was in Tasmania?
The added flag was a common occurrence on advertising cards produced for Victorian clients but I
think this was less common on cards produced by Niven for Tasmanian customers.
Does anyone one know where exactly Paterson's Luncheon Rooms were situated?

Re: ADVERTISING CARDS by F.W. NIVEN
Much appreciated Patrick.
Have looked in my Tas PO directories (1904 and 1913) and a google search but have been unable to locate Paterson's Luncheon Room. Not sure if this card is Tasmanian but perhaps, my guess it is Hobart. (At the moment)
I hope someone can confirm this. My research suggests that the flag with the red lion and red border, with the yellow background represents Scotland !! I notice they are a scotch pie house!

Re: ADVERTISING CARDS by F.W. NIVEN
Perhaps I have dropped a red herring. There is no further ID on the card that links it to Tas. I cannot find it in my 1864 or 1907 Walch, but they do not provide information on such establishments.

Broomby & Dents New Grain & Seed Warehouse 5 - 7 George St Launceston, is now known with and without a pro forma printed back.
Pro Forma back card is dated 11/12/08, used Launceston to Gladstone.

"The Cleavers, The People's Ironmongers, Launceston & Devonport"
______________ to view the whole card, click on the image once ______________________ This is the Launceston store on the corner of Brisbane and Charles Street. Does
anyone know of a view of their premises at Devonport?
P.S. I love the photo of the cluttered interior of the store ...oh for a time machine!

Re: ADVERTISING CARDS by F.W. NIVEN
thanks Mike ..... I didn't know that Cleavers had moved that far into "Don Store Territory" i.e. Ulverstone!
Interesting to note the "extras" added to the building including a "Niven Flag" which do not appear to be
as common an addition to the Tasmanian cards compared to Niven's output of Victorian hotels, stores, etc.
