Forgeries and Facsimiles seen on Online Auction Sites, etc
Re: Forgeries and Facsimiles seen on Online Auction Sites, e
This Courier is currently for sale on eBay. Am I right in thinking it could be a forgery? If so, perhaps it comes from the same source as the forgeries posted by Ross (March 17th 2010 and April 23rd 2011) as they all look strikingly similar. Is the Courier posted by Hobbit123 (April 2nd 2013) also from the same source?

Looks like a forgery by Jeffryes to me.
Re: Forgeries and Facsimiles seen on Online Auction Sites, e
Another dangerous item to look out for. I have recently seen fakes of Beer Duty labels offered on EBay. Clearly described as fakes by the vendor, but what happens when that are offered again by an unscrupulous buyer?
I have not bothered to post images, but could probably find some.

Laurent -- Would it be possible to get a larger scan of the stamp? I'm having trouble examining it. Thanks, Jerry

Hi Jerry.
unfortunetely this item disappeared from ebay. Not sure it was sell!
Here is another view from the same scan.

Maybe it will appear again on the web?

that the item was offered "as is" however the reserve of US$25 for a ruined stamp worth a few cents
indicated a lack of understanding about offering something "as is".

Re: Forgeries and Facsimiles seen on Online Auction Sites, etc
Just listed by Tasmanian Stamp Auctions in their next auction closing on April 9th, 2016.
A 4d blue QV S/face perf.10 (genuine stamp perf.12) with a forged cancel and printed '4' watermark .... the number
is different to format used on genuine stamp.
Does anyone know who the forger was?

seen recently on eBay - correctly described too although I can't work out why the vendor included a catalog value in the header and description!

Re: Forgeries and Facsimiles seen on Online Auction Sites, etc
Here is a fake BN 125 that recently sold on ebay. The stamp appears genuine with a fiscal cancel (probably cleaned) and the fake BN added. All three numerals are different from the original. The bars are also different.

Specimen forgeries
New "Specimen" forgeries are coming on the market. These are coming out of the NSW area and all in the last month. Three examples shown below. The halfpenny sold, the 1d and 3d are currently on ebay. Buyers beware!

Fake CA Monogram
A faked CA monogram on a lithographed halfpenny pictorial has been listed on ebay. The seller is from the NSW area and may be the same seller of the faked Specimen stamps, but under a different seller name (if I recall correctly).

More fake SPECIMEN overprints
Two more fake SPECIMEN overprints have been seen. The 5d keyplate issue is currently on ebay. The halfpenny surcharge sideface was previously on ebay. The seller of both items is from the Sydney area. The seller names were different, but undoubtedly the same individual since it appears the fake overprint is the same.
Re: Forgeries and Facsimiles seen on Online Auction Sites, etc
Thanks Jerry. It might be worthwhile listing the seller's name here so we can keep an eye out.
Some of us have reported various fakes to eBay over time, though with very little effect. Perhaps if there are multiple complaints there might be some action taken.

Re: Forgeries and Facsimiles seen on Online Auction Sites, etc
Sure, I can add the seller's name. One issue is that the forger keeps changing their seller name. Therefore, collectors need to be more astute--hence my attempt to show examples of the forgeries.
The ebay seller of the 5d keyplate specimen forgery (shown above) is "northgate14" with a location of Riverwood, Australia.
A second example of the sideface Halfpenny surcharge specimen forgery was listed on ebay yesterday (shown here). The ebay seller is "ocean-5002" with a location of Australia, Australia. An attempt to hide their location! Despite different names and locations, I believe it is the same forger.

Another Specimen Forgery
Another Tasmanian Specimen forgery has been listed on ebay. This time on an alleged surcharged 5d Keyplate. In addition to the Specimen overprint being forged, the 1 1/2d surcharge also appears forged. The forger is using the seller name of "ocean-5002" with a location of Australia, Australia.
