Here is a query about early usage of perforating machines
(not roulettes) in the 1860s. These are found on all of the
Chalons (1d, 2d, 4d, 6d, 1/-) and St George and Dragons
(3d, 2/6, 5/-, 10/-). Relevant gauges are 10, 11.4, 11.8
and 12.75 (see Craig and Ingles for details on Dragons).
I have just seen an apparently early usage of two 2/6 Dragons
on indenture, with one dated 19/3/1864 with Harris perfs.
(This is circa 12.75)
It would be nice to learn what other folks on this BB can say
about early usage of the perf 12.75 machine on any of the
St George and Dragon stamps. This question is also very
relevant to Chalons with Harris perfs.
We can ask a similar question about early use of perf 10,
11.4 or 11.8 on Dragons and Chalons.
Over to you!
Early use of perforations on Chalons, also Dragons
