HOTEL ADVERTISING CARDS - POST YOUR IMAGES HERE
This card with a view of Furner's Hotel (Ulverstone) as well as a "Scene on the Leven (River)" has
just been discovered in an old-time collection of postcards (out of 150 - 200 cards, it was the
only one with a Tasmanian subject!).
With an undivided back it most likely dates for 1904/05 with the publisher being The Age
newspaper Melbourne (the "Leader" and "Every Saturday" being other publications by the same newspaper house).
Has anyone seen one of these cards before or another from the same series (with a Victorian hotel
perhaps) ??
Footnote:
[In response to this topic, Mike provided an excellent post and opened a new topic as he believes (and I agree) that
the subject is well worth developing on it's own. Please use this link to view Mike's post @

Re: HOTEL ADVERTISING CARDS - POST YOUR IMAGES HERE
I recently received this card advertising "Hilldrop / Private Boarding Establishment..."
for inclusion in my first auction for 2010. While not strictly a hotel advertising card I think it
belongs to the same "genre".
It is an unused real photo card by A.W. Marshall (Devonport) on Kodak Austral
photographic stock. I cannot recall having seek an advertising card by Marshall
featuring a southern Tasmanian locale before.
Judging by the mode of transport and the fact that Bismarck was renamed Collinsvale
in 1915 I would date the card from 1908/1912.

Great card Ross!. This is indeed an interesting card as I was not aware that A W Marshall took photos so far away from Devonport. I have cards taken by him in the range of Burnie to Deloraine only.

Re: HOTEL ADVERTISING CARDS - POST YOUR IMAGES HERE
Has anyone seen one of these before ... or similar?
I'd date it as being from c.1920.

The back is plain.
Are there other cards printed by Tabbart Bros.?

Re: HOTEL ADVERTISING CARDS - POST YOUR IMAGES HERE
My copy of the Brisbane Hotel card is also unused. If my memory serves me correct, I think a small hoard of these cards came onto the about 15 years ago.
The Tasmanian Post Office Directory lists the following,
1914 Tabert Bros & Atkins, printers & Binders, 16 The Quadrant Launceston.
1928 Tabert Bros. Printers, 137a Cimitiere St. Launceston.
Is the picture of the Prince of Wales visit to Launceston 1920? I believe he stayed at the Brisbane Hotel.
See ROYAL VISITS TO TASMANIA thread.
I can't think of any other Tabert cards! I will have to check my Launceston cards.

I show a cover used by Heathorn's Hotel in 1938. Rather a superior type of corner card advert.

Re: HOTEL ADVERTISING CARDS - POST YOUR IMAGES HERE
Neville Solly from SA kindly sent me an image of this Bay View Hotel, Burnie advertising card. Although Mike has already
posted a copy in this forum, I thought another example wouldn't go amiss, especially as it was used by the proprietor in 1914 to order
some provisions (a 1 quart cask of Dewar's Imperial Whisky) which unfortunately was "Not in stock".

This postcard has seen much better days. The building is still there but additions and a highway at the door have changed the view somewhat.

HEATHORN'S HOTEL HOBART card postally used in 1908 - I have seen quite a number of examples so I'm surprised that an image thereof has not been posted previously.

This multiview card for HEATHORNS' HOTEL, HOBART dates from 1911 (if the printer's index on the back "11/7456' indicates the year of printing)
I have not seen this particular card for Heathorn's Hotel before although I am certain there must be a few around.
