Unusual marking on Victoria in oval

Has anyone ever seen a stamp marked like this? I'm assuming it's probably a revenue marking of some kind.

I have not seen this handstamp before but its fiscal cancellation. The relevant stamp duty act required cancellation of duty stamps with day, month and year. At this time postage stamps could also be used to pay stamp duty. Some private businesses did make their own handstamps for this purpose. Mather was a well known Hobart business but I’d say this marking is very scarce.

The Mather family were successful in Hobart. Mathers was a large department store, mainly de4aling with mens clothes. Mathers Lane still exists in Hobart, named for the family. William Mather also ran a large funeral business.

Thanks, I thought it would be fiscal as there are very similar date stamps used on American Revenue stamps.

After looking around online it looks like it probably read Andrew Mather & Company.
