I just noticed these stamps with the same postmark in a mixed lot offered on eBay
A 6d Platypus with a clear fiscal cancel dated '8 / 12 / 02' overstruck with a genuine
HOBART type 1 cds with OC 6 1900 date !!
I assume that this datestamp must have been in private hands at some stage - does anyone
have similar examples of it's illegitimate use?

Ross I have a 3d platypus stamp duty with large selvage with OC 6 1900 code H but it had not been used previously for stamp duty purposes. Unfortunately it is not on cover so it may not answer your question. Or was this one of the days they decided to use of a lot of stamp duty stamps instead of the Pictorials or tablets? Have a few Hobart and Launceston cds on platypus stamp duty (various values)in the 1900 period so perhaps someone had slipped in a cleaned fiscal for private use.

Sorry forgot to add the part about use of Hobart code S NO 29 1900 on a fiscally used 1/- platypus, fiscal date not fully visible, plus a hand drwn BN 6 also on a 1/- that was fiscally used 22.1.81.
See your point about predating the cds.
