A Pioneers Home

#1 Post by MikeEpworth » Mon Dec 05, 2016 2:40 pm

Hi TPS members,

Im trying to find information on a specific postcard called a 'Pioneer's Home" by L.H Davey. (image attached) and am hoping a member may be able to help.

I am doing Doctoral research on the Tasmanian 19th Chairmaker Jimmy Possum and am hoping this image could be a critical piece of evidence.

Kind Regards

Hi Mike,

welcome to the TPS Online Forum

re your postcard query, a useful reference that mentions this card (as a possible portrait of Jimmy Possum) and provides a short bio of Laura Davey is by David Cook, Picture Postcards in Australia 1898-1920, Pioneer Design Studio, Lilydale (VIC), 1986, 215pp.

P.S. the book appears in the online catalogs of a number of Australian libraries and if you want to request photocopies the relevant pages are 108, 147 and 182.

P.P.S. cards from this series of 6 published by W.T. Pater are very scarce by comparison with the other set of 12 Davey paintings with Northern Tasmanian views.
