1956-1966 & 1966- 1978 Lion Embossed Series
1956-1966 & 1966- 1978 Lion Embossed Series
These do not appear very often.
I am wondering about quantaties of values saved.
My highest original usage is £75 & $40 respectively.
Can you add to this dates you may also have.
I am not expecting many replies as this field of collecting is not for all.
Anyway here are a couple to start off with

I presume the adhesives were used to pay the duty on the mortgage and the embossed were used to release the mortgage after it was paid out.

The $40 my highest value used decimal.

Here is a group that sold in Ross's last auction [$160 Plus buyers].
I do not recal any other auction lots of this issue in recent times.

Having a look at the above lot, the 15/- looks as if it has damage, maybe its just a dirty die. .
This sent me off to check out my 15/- values, and i have come to the conclusion there was possibly 2 dies on the go at once???? as i have later dates without the 'damage'.
On the off chance does anybody have records of these dies and when ordered.
The below show a good range of ink colours used or the same ink but thinners added after morning tea gave a different shade! There are a couple showing similar 'damage' [but not identical] as the 15/- in the auction lot.

Dave,
I think there may be something in what you say about there possibly being two dies used of the 15/- Lion.
There appears to be a significant difference noticeable in the Lion's "posterior region"; also in the tip of the
"folded ribbon" on the left side above the T (with and without white line or dot). There may be others that
close examination and measurement may find ... my noted differences are "just for starters".
I think it would be a good idea to start a specific thread to explore this topic so that we don't get too far
away from the original purpose of this one. Would it be possible to provide some images in an A/B comparison
format and wherever possible, with the usage in chronological order?
I can see a journal article and a new "Craig number" resulting from a little more research!

Here's a photo of a 10/- on document dated 14 JAN 1966 (only a month before the introduction of
Decimal Currency!). This item was sold by TSA in their Nov 11th 2006 auction for AU$100 + charges.

Here's another batch of pre-decimal and decimal impressed duties with Heraldic Lion that
I found in the depths of my computer's hard-drive this morning.

They were offered as Lot 490 in the TSA Oct 6th 2007 postal auction and realised $66 + charges.
