We are researching the history of the Goulds Country Post office, opened 01/01/1871 to 30/04/1964 as a Post Office and 30/09/1971 as a TO
Do any of your members have a copy of the post mark or is there anywhere we can go to have a look at the listings of the postmasters for the life of the Post Office. We are under the belief that the Post Office was kept in the same name ie; Alexander Johnston or a member of his family for the time it was a Post Office.
Can any one help???????

I can tell you that the Post Mistress from 1899 - 1912 was a Mrs Johnstone. The book " Tasmania:The Postal History and Postal Markings "Vol 2 has a listing of PMs for all Offices between 1899 and 1912.
There are four different post mark " types" known to collectors. The original post mark, an un-framed circular date stamp, issued from 1876 to 1884, is rare, but later types are regularly seen.
I have a copy of a postmark dated Sep 13, 1904, see below, and you are welcome to copy it off the site if you wish.This was the second cancellor issued to the Post Office. If you want a higher quality image let me know.
I expect others may have more details regarding the Post Masters, but if not, I may be able to find something given a bit more time.
Someone may have a spare copy of a post mark they would be willing to part with. Appart from the first type, you should be able to find something without too much trouble.
