CDS on Tasmanian Pictorials Rarity Rating scale
As published in The Courier Special Edition “A Guide To Circular Datestamps On The Tasmanian Pictorial Issues 1899 – 1913”, John Hardinge has completely revised and expanded the rarity rating scale for circular date stamps on Tasmanian Pictorial issues. Key
RRRRR RANGE( 11 cds) Rarest cds. Less than 10 copies of any cds likely to exist.
RRRR RANGE( 15 cds) Extremely rare. Near the top rank of rarity with less than 25 copies of any cds likley to exist.
RRR RANGE (29 cds) A step down from RRRR. Less than 50 copies per cds likely to exist.
RR RANGE ( 61 cds). Rare and quite difficult to find. Available in the market.
R RANGE ( 112 cds). Rare but less difficult to find than RR. Readily available in the market and may appear in mixed lots
S (SCARCE) RANGE ( 110 cds). Can be found in mixed lots but not in any quantity and are not particularly common.
C (COMMON RANGE) ( 205 cds). Mostly easily found.

- Ratings should be expressed using both “R” and number, e.g RRR (14)
- * means good strikes are harder to find than usual, ** means good strikes are much harder to find than usual. The asterisks, where applicable, are part of the rating and are the result of many years of research.
