• BN5(i) is only found on Chalons - Rated: RRRRR

• BN5(ii) is smaller than BN5(i) and is found on stamps issued in the 1880s on - Rated: RRRR

Type 1a

• Earliest recorded date: 01-APR-1880 · Latest recorded date: 27-APR-1916

• The datestamp was issued circa June 1878

• Hardinge rated 12(RR+) in pictorial period and is extremely hard to find good strikes

• Rated RRRR on Commonwealth issues

• Clear impressions of this postmark are worth a significant premium!

• this report in The Examiner from Tuesday, July 14th 1891 suggests that there may have been a period when this office was closed
