Location: 41° 7' 0" South, 146° 4' 0" East

  • situated 12kms west of Ulverstone.
  • named after the colonies of Little Penguin found nearby.

Opened: 1-Jun-1868

Opened in 1868 as Penguin Creek and datestamps carried that name until 1900.


Barred Numeral Postmark[edit]


BN123 was initially used at Sulphur Creek from 1-Jan-1867 before being transferred to Penguin Creek (just 5 km east) when that post office opened on 1-Jun-1868

Type 1 Penguin Creek

The Type 1 postmark used from 1886 read Penguin Creek. This postmark was altered in 1900 with CREEK being removed to leave a lopsided postmark which was not replaced until 1910.

  • 1868 - Notice of transfer of post office from Sulphur Creek to Penguib Creek with Mr Henry Bennett as the postmaster.
  • 1-Jan-1895 Miss M W Cadle, to be postmistress at Penguin, vice Miss E S Rockwell.
