Creating Pages On This Site[edit]
The Wikipedia tutorial Wikipedia uses the same software as this wiki.
Current 'copy and paste' page template Select EDIT or VIEW SOURCE, select all (Control A), copy and then paste into your new page listing.
You can delete any unwanted text or 'copy and paste' where additional sections for postmarks, etc. are needed.
Image Sources[edit]
The TPS Bulletin Board ... the image that you need may have already been posted there!
National Archive PhotoSearch Rules of use apply
Picture Australia Rules of use apply
State library of Tasmania Rules of use apply
Maps, Coordinates, Distances, etc.[edit]
LISTmap - Tasmanian Government - I found the 'learning curve' on this site to be steep but the calculation of distances function alone is very useful
Google's World Gazetteer - great for 'copy and paste' coordinates. Make sure that you type your requests into the search box at the very top of the page and not the 'world places' or 'world regions' boxes.
Newspapers[edit]
Search Tasmanian newspapers using TROVE Invaluable! Any time spent here is worthwhile but be warned ...it's addictive!
P.M.G. · Australian Post Office · Australia Post[edit]
Search for current Tasmanian postal codes
Search for the location of current Tasmanian post offices You have to select the "Locate a post office and opening hours" link. The maps are excellent and you can even find places where a post office hasn't existed for may decades !!
Sorry there isn't a direct link but I can't get one to work from a page on a password protected site.
Tasmanian Place Names[edit]
"Bailliere's Tasmanian Gazetteer & Road Guide" (1877) - State Library of Tasmania
Tasmanian Place Names and Changes - Browne et al (1999 - 2003)
The E.R. Pretyman Index to Tasmanian Place Names - State Library of Tasmania
