In The Courier No 11, March 1990, Tony Orchard commenced a census of the scarcer Circular Date Stamps on Tasmanian Pictorials. The census extended over a number of years and all then known types were recorded. The listing of scarcer strikes was thought to be reasonably complete. Alas the Census was not continued beyond the 1990s.
The TPS web site presents an opportunity to revive this census and make the results easily available to TPS members on-line. How many strikes might exist of the rarest CDS ? How does the quality vary from post office to post office ? What prices are being realised at auction ? These are some of the more obvious questions that a revival of the census might help to answer.
The original Courier census images will be progressively up-loaded onto a Members section of the TPS web site starting in July 2009. As many new examples as can be found from collections and auction catalogues will be added to the existing black and white images originally published.
Can you help ? If you have any of the 3R and 4R cds on Pictorials you assistance in adding these to the web site would be welcomed. Just contact Peter Allan via this Bulletin Board - use the private message facility(the little 'PM' icon on the top right of this message) or add a post to this Topic.
Ideally I'd like good quality scans sized to 200 pixels in width, but if you don't know how/haven't got time to do this, just let me know and I'll be happy to assist.Complete privacy is assured. If you have any comments, suggestions or questions please don't hesitate to get in touch.
