Re: BOOK: THE POST OFFICES & THEIR DATESTAMPS by J. HARDINGE - report updates here!
Here's an item to 'start the ball rolling' ...... I discovered this new late date for the GEORGE TOWN Type U1 cds
the day before we packed all the copies of the book for distribution!
previous LRD was August 6th 1883 .... new LRD is 6th September 1883 ...approx. a month later
N.B. this cancel is on a complete registered letter envelope.

A new late date for the VERONA Type 2 cds - 'day' in dateline in distinct but fortunately the message on the postcard is date "5.5.09"
The postcard may have been mailed a day or two later of course so we came assume that the new LRD is May 5th 1909 which is over 2 months later than
recorded in John Hardinge's recent book.

MILITARY CAMP · SEP 25 (1914) SENT used at BRIGHTON MILITARY CAMP with INVERTED dateline
John hasn't recorded an inverted dateline used at this office although I think I may have seen another example somewhere back in the mists of time (although this may have been when the
rubber cds was used at ROSS or later at CLAREMONT).

CORRECTION: Page 204 ...... SHEFFIELD
SHEFFIELD Type 2a 'PAID' cds ...... Remarks column commences (reads) "Paid at Sheffield"
The datestamp actually reads POSTAGE PAID · SHEFFIELD

QUERY: PAID AT LAUNCESTON cds impression from 1912
This datestamp is classified as Type 4R(i) however this example has the time included in the dateline ...also, there is a stop after TAS (i.e. TAS.) making it
a basic Type 4a cds rather than a Type 4
Could this be Type 4aTR (without the rate) or Type 4a(x)R (time added instead of rate) or.......
Any thoughts??

Another example of the DUNDAS JUNCTION Type 1 cds has been discovered (until now, only one strike had been recorded from the first period of use)
Dated OC 24 91, this example becomes the ERD with the previously only example known now becoming the LRD i.e. 29 JUL 93

Hobart Cds 1 (i) (Hobart with nothing at base - the first type 1 for Hobart.
This is a new LRD of 14 Sep 1880; the previous ERD was 2 Oct 1879.
This is an interesting if unspectacular cds. Hardinge records only two copies seen, both code H. I have two further copies, one now the LRD. Both are back stamps on covers from South of Hobart, sent to Hobart addresses.
As it is quite unspectacular and easily missed as a backstamp, I expect it may be more common than the 4R rating currently allocated.
It is very easily confused with one half of a Hobart duplex. This duplex quite often is seen on stamps removed from cover, the datestamp half only showing. The type 1(i) can be distinguished in that there is a "-" between Hobart and Town while the duplex has no "-" separating Hobart and Town.
This new date has been added to the new book "Post Office and Datetsamp Compendium" which will shortly be published by the TPS - see https://tasstampbooks.com/
