DOUBLE RING VIOLET POSTMARK?
DOUBLE RING VIOLET POSTMARK?
HI FELLOW MEMBERS... Have been enjoying reading through lots of posts and help given in this topic (being a ROO collector). Also enjoy knowing that it is a safe area and no question is too silly (that helps with my next question). Can members identify this postmark at all? I THINK its a Tasmania postmark (only because it was in a cigar box won at Ross's last auction which contained some lovely TAS cancels). I've seen a lot of very interesting postmarks on Kangaroos ... but I can't find this anywhere in my reference books - ROSS suggested I try here...
I hope you can help?
Re: DOUBLE RING VIOLET POSTMARK?
This seems to be a mystery, assuming it's a Tasmanian datestamp as none of the POs beginning with CAMP... are recorded as having the type R2a datetsamp. The only example of the type 2a I am familiar with is the PAID AT Franklin while your example is POST OFFICE etc..
A little bit more of the datestamp would have been helpful!
Sorry I can't be more help.
Pete

Thanks Pete!!
Re: DOUBLE RING VIOLET POSTMARK?
PS, My assumption is it's either a new discovery or it's not a Tasmanian cds. It looks very much like a Tasmanian cds but...?
Re: DOUBLE RING VIOLET POSTMARK?
Thank you again! I wonder if its a NSW postmark (CAMPBELTOWN or similar)? I must admit though, I thought (as soon as I saw it) that was a TASSIE...

Re: DOUBLE RING VIOLET POSTMARK?
I wish I could offer some insight but I could only be "Post Office" and either Campania or Campbell Town if Tasmanian. The balance of probability is that it's a NSW cancel, which as a state used these rubber CDS quite extensively. It's worth keeping aside.

Thank you John! Appreciate your response... I'll put it aside until I see something similar again...
